Society of Botanical Artists

Exhibiting excellence in every botanical art form.

The Society invites artists to submit their very best work to our open exhibition. Whether an artist working in watercolour, oils, gouache, graphite, colour pencil or pen & ink, a botanical illustrator, a printmaker, ceramic artists, sculptor, jeweller or glass artist, we are seeking work with a strong exhibiting presence to be part of our show at the Mall Galleries. Our only criteria are that all work must: Be predominantly of botanical content. Be botanically accurate. Be visually pleasing. Have strong wall appeal. Be work you are proud of. All work must be original (all prints must be hand pulled and NOT giclee). We regret we do not accept photography or other digital art forms. Maximum dimension is 120cm on the longest side.

Exhibition Entry Information

General Information
The exhibition will be held at Mall Galleries in The Mall near Admiralty Arch.

Submissions of work are invited from visual artists working in any two or three-dimensional artwork except for photography and giclee printing (or similar).

Submission Procedure
Submission is by online entry only. Please click on the link from our website and follow the instructions.

Work selected for exhibition must be for sale. There is a minimum sale price for work less than 40cm on the longest side of £250 and a minimum price of £350 for work over 40cm on the longest length. Commission is payable to the Society as follows:

Members (all classes):              Works less than 75cm on longest side 35%

                                                  Works larger than 75cm on longest side 40%

Non members                           Works less than 75cm on longest side 45%

                                                  Works larger than 75cm on longest side 50%

It will be assumed that the stated sale price includes the cost of any frame and the commission.  Please allow for these points when pricing your work. Prices should include VAT if applicable. If you are VAT registered, please provide a VAT number in the box provided. 

All communication will be by email or via the online login process. Applicants will be required to login to see if their work has been preselected; if so they will be asked to download and print their application details to be delivered with the artwork. Failure to do so could result in work being withdrawn from the exhibition. 

Image Uploads
Image files should be JPG or PNG and no more than 5MB large. Upload time will depend on your internet connection speed so please be patient. If you are having problems uploading your images please use image editing software to resize your image to approximately 1600 pixels wide and then save as a new file. Image file names should not be too long and should not contain any invalid characters such as ' " & % * ( ) < > / \ ~ # + =

The Selection Committee will select the works for the exhibition. The Selectors will consider all correctly completed submissions. The decision of the Selectors on all matters is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

It is very difficult to assess work from poor photographs so please submit scans or very good photographs to show the work at its best.  Good results can be obtained with tablets and telephones, but take care to ensure that there is sufficient light (especially when the background appears as grey on a photograph), that the image is in focus, there are no reflections through glass, or bad angles from work being propped up.  The Selection Committee encourages artists to choose simple plain mounts and wooden frames (which can accommodate mirror plate fixings) that will not detract from the work or interfere with adjacent works in the exhibition; poor presentation may prejudice acceptance.  Acrylic glass and work framed with clips is not admissible.  All pre-selected works are subject to physical selection, however the reasons for which work may be rejected at physical selection stage are likely to relate to the quality of presentation or if the work does not represent or match the digital image.  Buyers are unable to inspect the reverse of pictures and frames, they expect them to be appropriately sealed so artists should pay special attention to clean paper, mounts and glazing (especially inside the glass).

Artists are responsible for insuring their own work. All works accepted for exhibition will be displayed entirely at the artists' risk and organisers and the gallery will not accept liability for loss or damage occurring during the exhibition.

Delivery and Collection
Artists are responsible for the delivery and collection of their work at the Gallery. All packaging materials must be removed after delivery (no gallery storage is available for this) and brought back at collection. If applying from overseas, please consider how you will deliver to and collect work from the exhibition venue at the required times.
Work not collected at the stated times will be subject to a daily charge of £10 and will be disposed of after one week. 

Overseas artists – framing and VAT
We have arrangements whereby your work can be delivered unframed to a UK address.  Please go to the SBA website for further information on this and VAT registration information. 

By submitting to the exhibition you are deemed to accept and agree to the following:
The decision of the Selectors on all matters Is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
I understand that The Organisers reserves the right to make such changes to the exhibition arrangements and these Terms & Conditions as may be deemed necessary by circumstances.
I authorise The Organisers To process, store, and utilise the data in my submission and agree that, if selected for exhibition, images of my work can be freely used by The Organisers, The Gallery and associated organisations for promotional and publicity purposes.
All information provided by me is true and accurate and that the work submitted is wholly of my own creation.
I have read and understood these terms and conditions and by submitting this application I accept and agree to observe all the Terms And Conditions therein.
